TIPS FOR SEARCHING
THE SMALL SCHOOLS WORKSHOP SITE:
Search results will yield pages containing at least one of the
terms you have entered. For example, if you enter the search
items [fruit apples pears] the Search will interpret this to mean
[fruit or apples or pears] by default.
The terms "and," "not," and "or" (known as Boolean operators)
can be used to help you in your search. For example, if you
enter [and fruit and apples and pears] the search will only yield
documents which contain ALL of the three items listed. If you enter
[apples not pears], you will find all documents containing the word
"apples" except those documents which also contain the word "pears."
The symbols "+" and "-" (known as Boolean operators) can be used
to help you in your search. For example, if you enter [+fruit
+apples +pears], the search will only yield documents which contain
ALL of the three items listed. If you enter [apples -pears] the
search results will yield documents containing the word "apples"
except those documents which also contain the word "pears."
Entering search items with capital letters will trigger a case-sensitive
search. If a search term has at least one capital letter the
search will be case-sensitive with respect to that word. For example,
if you enter [London] only documents containing "London" will be
returned. However, if you enter items in lowercase, e.g. [london],
the search will not be case-sensitive; it may yield documents containing
terms such as "London," "LONDON," or "londON."
Use quotation marks to search for a group of words. For example,
if you enter ["an apple a day"] the search will yield only documents
that contain the ENTIRE phrase inside the quotation marks.
Boolean operators and quotation marks can be used together to
help you search. For example, if you enter [+apple +pie not
"apple pie"] the search will yield only documents in which the terms
"apple" and "pie" appear separately. |
